My Background in Languages
I have been in love with foreign languages for as long as I can remember. My first experience of formal language learning was at primary school at the age of nine, when we started to learn French. I continued with French and then German throughout secondary school and college, then embarked upon a bachelor’s degree in French with German at the University of Leicester in the 1980s. A year in Alsace, working as an “assistante” in a French secondary school (lycée général) consolidated the knowledge acquired from university lectures and enabled me to become fluent. The proximity to the German border also allowed for trips into Germany, which helped to advance my second foreign language. After twenty years’ teaching Modern Languages (French, German and some Spanish) in a UK secondary school, I set up my company, The Language Corner Limited, in 2008, now specialising in certified translation services for clients who need to submit a certified translation to official UK bodies.
